Question Add a link into a page?
You can add both internal and external links into any page on your website. You can also make both text and images into links.

Sign into your website management, go to Website Content Management and click to edit the page where you would like to insert a link.

External Links

1. Type some text, for example: Click here for the NHS Direct website.
Or you can type the website address, for example: www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk.
Alternatively you can add an image, for example: [Image: fcebb1eaeed2936878b901c1a8f420df-nhsdirect.png]

2. Select the text (click and drag over the text) that you would like to turn into a link for example: the word here or www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk
Alternatively click on the image that you would like to turn into a link. Little white boxes will appear at the corners of your image.

3. Then click on the Insert/edit link icon [Image: e1aace54f23b9aef0dd7469aac2a4852-link.png] and a pop up will open.

4. You need to type the URL of the website that you would like to link to in the Link URL box, for example http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk. You must include http://.
Top Tip: why not visit the website that you would like to link to and then copy and paste the URL straight out of your address bar - this will prevent any spelling mistakes.

If you would like your external website to appear in a new window (so your patients do not lose your website) you can change the Target to open in a new window (_blank).

5. Click Insert and the text will change to blue and underlined so your patients will know it is a link. Click Save and then Publish your website.
If you have made an image into a link the$n the image will have a blue box around it - this box will not be visible when you Save and Publish.

Result:

Click here for the NHS Direct website.

www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk

Internal Links

If you would like to add an internal link into your website, for example if you would like to put a link to your repeat prescription page from your home page, then you need to first follow stages 1, 2 and 3 above.

4. Instead of typing http://... you need to type the Web Page Extension of the page you would like to link to in the Link URL box.

For example, on our Secure Surgery Website the repeat prescription page is:
www.securesurgerywebsite.co.uk/repeat-prescription-form,28336.htm
We would paste the text: /repeat-prescription-form,28336.htm into the Link URL box.

Because your patients will not lose your website by clicking on this link leave the Target as Open in this window / frame.

5. Click Insert, then Save and then Publish your website.
